Certification

CRM exam requirements & timelines

01

What are the exam requirements for CRM Certification?

You'll need to:

  • Pass the CRM Exam Stage I
  • Pass the CRM Exam Stage II
  • Pass the CRM Exam Stage III
  • Provide evidence of a minimum of 2 years professional experience

CRMI accepts a detailed CV with supporting documents as evidence of work experience. Professionals in non-risk-management positions may be required to demonstrate more than 2 years' experience depending on the industry, role, and position held. Details of work experience must be entered at the membership registration stage.

Old members (more than 5 years) must update their profile before registering for the CRM examination.

Note: CRMI policy does not consider industrial attachments and undergraduate internships as work experience. However, course facilitation, academic lecturing, and research in areas relevant to risk management will be considered.

Candidates who have passed all stages of the CRM but have not submitted details of their work experience must do so within 5 years after passing the exams. Beyond that, you will be required to re-register and re-write all stages.

02

How much time do I have to complete the CRM Certification process?

You have 4 years between stages:

  • Pass Stage II within 4 years of passing Stage I.
  • Pass Stage III within 4 years of passing Stage II.

If a candidate exceeds these windows, the relevant stages must be re-registered and re-written.

How to apply & where to write

06

How do I register for the CRM programme?

Two options:

  1. Online via the member portal — sign in (or apply for membership first), open the Exams tab, pick the modules you intend to sit, and pay via Paystack or bank transfer.
  2. In person at the secretariat — visit the CRMI office in Lekki Phase I, Lagos, during office hours and the Exams & Records team will guide you through registration.

Registration windows open 6 weeks before each diet and close 30 days before the exam start date.

07

Where do I sit the exam?

The CRM examination is delivered as a proctored online CBT from any state in Nigeria. You'll need a stable internet connection, a webcam, and a quiet environment for the proctor to monitor.

For candidates who prefer a physical centre, the secretariat will publish a list of approved centres ahead of each diet.

Logistics & Deadlines

Dates, fees, and policies

08

What are the key deadlines for the upcoming diet?

Each year CRMI runs two examination diets — April and October.

Key cut-offs for each diet:

  • Registration opens — 6 weeks before exam start
  • Standard registration closes — 30 days before exam start
  • Late registration closes — 14 days before exam start (carries a late fee)
  • Module top-up window — closes 14 days before exam start
  • Results released — within 4 weeks of exam end

Specific dates for the upcoming diet are published on the examinations page and announced via the member portal.

09

What does the CRM exam cost?

Exam fees are set per stage and per module. The current schedule is published in the fees & payment page — admins update it whenever Council ratifies a change, so the schedule there is always current.

Annual membership dues are separate from exam fees. Members in good standing on their annual dues qualify for a discounted exam rate.
